Website Analytics
To understand how our website is used and to improve its performance, we collect minimal technical information when you visit:
- Page visited (the URL path of the page you view)
- Referrer (the website you came from, limited to host and path only — query parameters and fragments are stripped to avoid exposing sensitive information)
- Browser type and version (from the user agent string)
- Preferred language (from the HTTP Accept-Language header)
- Date and time of the visit
- Country code (calculated from the IP address on our server without sending it to any third party)
- An anonymized identifier derived from your IP address
How we anonymize IP addresses
We never store your IP address in full. Instead, we generate a random “salt” and use it together with your IP address to calculate a scrambled value (a hash).
- The salt is replaced with a new one every 24 hours.
- This means that the previous day’s hash values are effectively deleted, and we cannot link your visits across different days.
- Once the salt is replaced, the data is fully anonymized and cannot be traced back to you.
Why we do this
This method allows us to:
- Count the number of unique visitors per day
- See which pages are most frequently visited
- Understand which sites and services link to us (at host/path level only)
- Learn which types of devices, browsers, and languages are used
- Understand our audience’s country distribution at an aggregate level
- Ensure our website works correctly and is optimized for our visitors
- Generate anonymous, aggregated statistics (e.g. daily visitor numbers), which we may also use in public communications about our website’s reach
Legal basis
We process this data based on our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in:
- Operating and securing our website
- Measuring and improving its performance
- Optimizing content and functionality for the browsers, languages, and countries our visitors use
- Understanding which pages and features are most relevant to visitors
The data is never shared with third parties, never used to track individual visitors across sites or over time, and never used for profiling.
